Road Trip to Louisville KY
A few years ago we took a trip to Louisville for a friends wedding! We had so much fun that on our way to Nashville for vacation the following year, we decided to stop and spend an extra night in Louisville. Our friend's family is from here so I quickly messaged her to get some recommendations and these are a few of the places she sent me. We spent the day at the local distilleries and eating great food!
We stayed at 2 different places each time. The first time we came to Louisville, we stayed at The Brown Hotel! This place is absolutely gorgeous with it's timeless southern charm! Our friends had their wedding reception here and it was stunning!
The second time we came here, we stayed at at Aloft by Marriott. We are Marriott rewards members so we tend to stay at Marriott hotels wherever we travel. This one was really nice and just a short walk from these distilleries and restaurants. Perfect for doing tours!
The first distillery we went to was Old Forester Distillery. We had so much fun here! We took the baby with us to all of these places so it's stroller friendly! My favorite whiskey was the 1920 Prohibition style. It tastes just like caramel and sweet graham crackers!
The second distillery we went to was the Jim Beam Urban Stillhouse. This was pretty fun but small. Not like their main distillery. We did do a tasting and we got to bottle our own bourbon! What a perfect keepsake!
We also walked around Angels Envy but we weren't able to get a tour because we had waited until the last minute to book one. This place was really cool inside so we were pretty bummed about not being able to do a tour here! Definitely don't wait until the last minute to book a tour.
We ate dinner that night outside on the patio at Against the Grain. We had perfect weather while visiting! The food here is absolutely delicious. We ordered a few appetizers to share so we could try a bunch of different things and it was sooo good!
Here is a picture of my Mint Julep from Old Forester! This drink was so good! I don't know that I had ever had one prior to this and it was fantastic! Highly recommend!!
The next morning we had brunch at this fun little restaurant just outside Louisville called The Silver Dollar. I got the waffles and Anthony got the huevos racheros. Both dishes were delicious! I also had a really good mimosa there!
We had such a fun time in this city! There is so much to do and see! I hope this helps you decide on some places to go if you plan a trip to Louisville! Our next trip here will definitely be for the Kentucky Derby!
